Zaphiro Technologies, a Swiss start-up innovating in the energy market with their pioneering smart-grid solution, has successfully raised CHF 1.5M from AtmosClear Investments, a renewable energy and clean-tech focused private equity group. The funding will fuel product development and accelerate the go-to-market strategy.
Founded in 2017, Zaphiro developed SynchroGuard, an innovative solution for smart grids. The technology, thanks to new measurement devices and advanced data-processing algorithms, provides unique benefits to electrical utilities, comprising real-time monitoring of the grid status, efficient management of the electricity flows, and blackout impact reduction by quickly locating electrical faults.
Dr. Paolo Romano, CEO and co-founder of Zaphiro, says: “Our mission is to support electrical utilities in this energy transition period. Power grid modernization and digitization is a paramount to enable the safe integration of increasing power generation from renewable energies and electric vehicles and, at the same time, maintain the power grid stability”.
Harry Sykes, Principal of AtmosClear, comments: “It’s exciting to work with this innovative company that is reshaping the future of electrical grids. We are impressed by the potential of their smart-grid solution and the tremendous benefits the company can provide to electrical utilities in terms of operation efficiency and cost savings. We look forward to working alongside this high-quality team to address large-scale commercialization in the shortest time possible”.
Well-recognized electrical utilities like Romande Energie (largest utility in French-speaking Switzerland) and China Light and Power (Hong Kong utility) who are currently testing SynchroGuard, have been impressed by its ability to guarantee a simple installation in a few strategic grid nodes and yet provide accurate fault location and view of energy flows across the entire grid.
Zaphiro’s work has been backed by the European Commission, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, and the Fondation pour l’Innovation Technologique.
