Zaphiro announces the continuation and expansion of its strategic partnership with the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), advancing pioneering research on Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU)-based solutions to transform power system management and fault detection across the region.
Building on a successful foundation of innovation, Zaphiro and the DEWA R&D team have embarked on a comprehensive study evaluating the cost-benefit ratio and scalability of PMU technology across DEWA’s extensive network. This collaboration marks a significant step towards the wider adoption of this strategic technology, aimed at enhancing the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of Dubai’s power grid.
In a recent milestone, the joint research team, including DEWA experts Tareg Ghaoud, Sajan K Sadanandan and Gagandeep Dua alongside Zaphiro researchers Mayank Nagendran, Lorenzo Zanni and Paolo Romano, was honored with the Best Paper Award at SPIES 2024 in the UAE. Their paper presented innovative PMU-based fault location methods using Distribution-Phasor Measurement Units (D-PMUs) within a real-time hardware-in-the-loop testbed, offering a revolutionary approach to fault detection and classification in power distribution networks.
As power systems grow increasingly complex, this research demonstrates how D-PMUs provide high-resolution, time-synchronized measurements that significantly enhance the accuracy and speed of fault detection, thereby supporting grid resilience and sustainability goals.
We are proud to deepen our collaboration with DEWA, focusing on practical, impactful technologies that support Dubai’s vision of a smart, clean, and highly efficient energy future. Our award-winning research and ongoing studies showcase the potential of PMU technologies to revolutionize power systems management worldwide.” said Giacomo Mantero, Sales Manager at Zaphiro. He also added: “This partnership with DEWA reflects our commitment to delivering innovative and scalable solutions that meet the evolving demands of modern power grids. We are excited about the opportunity to help drive the digital transformation of energy infrastructure in the UAE and beyond, ensuring more reliable and sustainable power for communities.
DEWA’s commitment to innovation and smart grid technologies continues to drive the energy sector forward, and this partnership with Zaphiro exemplifies a shared dedication to research excellence and sustainable energy solutions.
