Zaphiro Technologies and Ericsson partner to Demonstrate Smart Solutions over 5G for Electric Utilities at Mobile World Congress and DISTRIBUTECH

Sustainability is very important for Zaphiro Technologies. Preventing bush fires to take place, or wildlife to be at risk, represent a significant contribution to increase our planet’s sustainability, preventing damages from falling conductors.

Zaphiro Technologies, a Swiss company specialized in smartgrid monitoring and control, and Ericsson, a global leader in 5G technology, are collaborating to demonstrate innovative solutions for the electric utility industry.

This collaboration will combine Zaphiro’s technology of synchrophasors and phasor measurement units (PMUs), used in medium voltage distribution networks, with Ericsson 4G and 5G Mission Critical Networks solution, providing together real-time situational awareness of the power system dynamics, enabling advanced protection and control schemes, therefore detecting and locating faults faster than traditional distribution protection schemes.
Ericsson 5G technology provides high-speed, low-latency and reliable wireless communication, enhancing the performance and scalability of synchrophasor-based solutions by enabling faster data transmission, wider coverage and better security for electrical power grids.

Together, Zaphiro and Ericsson demonstrate the reduced threat of wildfire with 5G and power grid innovations, leveraging on their complementary expertise and technologies. The joint innovative solution can improve grid reliability, efficiency, and resilience greatly.

A demonstration of this technology innovation will be held simultaneously at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 26 – 29 in Ericsson booth, Hall 2, at Fira Gran via, Barcelona, Spain and at DISTRIBUTECH on February 27 – 29 at Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida.
